Interior painting can be a fun thing to do for a family who wants to remodeling their kids room or play room.
One thing you will want to do when planning how your kid’s room will function is that you want to keep their room as unique and fitted to their personality as you can. The best way to do this is to let them participate in the design of their room.
Remember, most things you do to a room can be undone or changed later. It is now and the growing up your kids will do that count. If you sell later, you can always repaint or redo to make the room desirable to a wider market.
For now, you want to have your child or children’s likes and dislikes, desires, wishes, hopes and dreams in mind.
Interior Painting -Tips for Your Family
If you are painting your children’s room or play room, plan to create areas where they can later have more fun.
One great suggestion to add to your painting plan is to put cheap pull down roller shades horizontally along the bottom section of walls. You can then add a chair rail to help hold it down if you want, or just use regular staples or tacks around the perimeter of the shade and some wallpaper border or other type of art border. If you choose wallpaper, tack it down instead of gluing so it is removable.
The shade makes a wonderful surface for the kids to do drawings on with crayons or markers. You can use washable crayons or markers, or not. If you use the permanent kind, it will allow you to take down the shade later, roll or fold it up, and preserve it for your family’s memories.
Applying a shade to the walls in their room will be helpful if any of your children already have a habit of marking on walls or floors.
Plus, it encourages and teaches them that they can have the expressive freedom they want but within certain boundaries. It allows them to own the art work and look at it regularly since it is in their area of the home. And if you can avoid them marking on the whole thing the first day, then they could have days or weeks of fun filling in their artwork.
Another great idea to add is to add chalk or marker boards to a wall or two. Let them erase and create as they desire.
Picking Out Kids Colors For Interior Painting
What type of color you are going to paint the room depends mostly on the dominant mood you want to create in their space.
Is it a playroom where you want them to feel free to play and make noise or is it a bedroom where you would prefer they feel relaxed and calm? For relaxing, choose relaxing spa-type tones, for fun and playing use vibrant tones with more saturated color.
Many colors go together as mixed tones, so you can also easily create an area of one room to entice relaxation and another area for playing.
For instance, paint three walls surround the bed area, one with a darker color that the bed is dominantly near and the other two on either side a lighter color that will blend in with the third brighter wall which will function as play area.
There are many things you can do to make your interior painting project fun for the family. Just keeping them in mind and know that having them participate in the decisions will go a long way to getting the right results the first time.
